For the Love of Paper

Grain Edit just posted this amazing poster for the Stern Grove Festival (SF) by artist Yulia Bordskaya. (Update: See even better close ups of the poster here). Yulia is a graphic artist, illustrator, and fine artist who is best known for her gorgeous paper art pieces. Technically known as "quilling", she used long strips of paper glued down to make her art (Although by her own admission, she never knew it was called quilling when she first started). The results are breathtaking - really, I almost hyperventilated when I saw her website - check out more of Yulia's gorgeous work below:

Midweek Inspiration

Pick Me up contempary graphic arts show in London featured some AWESOME (wait, let me say that again: A.W.E.S.O.M.E) illustrators/artists.

A great overview of the show is
here.

Some of my faves
Jess Wilson – favorite film scripts illustrated

Rob Ryan – gorgeous, fragile papercuts and silkscreens (see his work from the show, left).

Enjoy!

Upholstery: A Dying Art

As I troll the web looking for DIY ideas for my current redecorating obsession, I keep coming across upholstery. Or reupholstery, to be more specific. With the big recession and all, people seem to be realizing that new doesn't necessarily been better, and "upcycling" old junky furniture is one of the best ways of recycling - and saving money!

Etsy just posted a TERRIFIC video by the gals from Spruce in Austin, who've updated the lost art of reupholstery.

Check it out!

Etsy Find!

K, let's ignore the fact that is in fact another Love. Want. Need. post, and concentrate on how cute this quilt is:

Really now. How cute is this quilt?

While we agree with Esty maker The Bobbin's Nest that the Wee Three Birds Boy Quilt would be perfect for baby boy nursery (it is, after all "crib sized")... we happen to think it'd be cute in a guest room. Or any room, for that matter.

And at $185, it's actually a steal for a lovingly handcrafted quilt.

Get it before it's gone!

LWN.

Everyone wants to have the cool kid at school (or playgroup, or family reunion...). Either you already have kid(s), or you're one of those people who don't have kids but think, "If I were a parent, I'd be awesome. My kid would awesome. He'd be like Maddox + Kingston TIMES INFINITY."
Even people who fall into the "there's a reason the animal kingdom eat their young" category has a godson/niece/bestfriendfromhighschoool's kid who is the "IhatekidsbutthiskidisTHEcoolestkidever" kid.

All those cool kids gotta look cool, so thank heavens for House of Mongrels. Organic, eco-friendly playclothes with vintage-esque graphics like rockets and robots.

And if there's anything cool, it's rockets and robots. And House of Mongrel has plenty of both. Check more out on their website, or at Urban Baby Runway.

Your kids can thank me later.

9 By Design

Have you seen this show? I love love love it. Kids? NY? Gorgeous design? Please.

Magnifique!

To fill in all you non-Bravo addicts out there, the premise of the show is basically this: married couple Robert and Cortney Novogratz build amazing homes out of basically nothing all over New York, keep flipping them and moving merely blocks away... and do it all with SEVEN kids. Sheesh.

While the reality show aspect is entertaining - I like to watch their parenting styles, and how they seemingly do it all - I mostly love it for the inspirational design.

You can find the "official" show site here, but for some real eye candy, check out the website for the Novogratz's design firm, Sixx Design. I love their use of artwork, of open spaces, and especially what they consider a "kids room"

Style to spare, non? Although I keep wondering where all the toys are kept...
